OTJIMBINGWE – Otjimbingwe Primary School this week received furniture, water tanks, seedlings and classroom renovations from Rössing Uranium to improve learning conditions.
The donations were handed over in partnership with the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT), KNeumayer Construction and Boost Branding during the Arbour Day commemoration at the school.
The school received concrete tables and chairs, two water tanks, fruit and shade seddlings, as well as improvements to classrooms, the hostel and dining hall.
Speaking at the handover, Rössing Uranium’s Manager for Corporate Communications, Daylight Ekandjo, said the initiative was more than providing infrastructure.
“What brings us here is not simply about infrastructure, it is about partnership, dignity and investing in the future of our children,” she said.
NIMT and artisans from the Rössing-supported Youth Incubation Centre in Arandis made the cement tables and chairs, while KNeumayer Construction covered the cost of transporting cement from Karibib to the school.
Boost Branding, based in Swakopmund, sponsored inspirational messages and cartoon characters for display in classrooms, dormitories and the dining hall.
The school also received two water tanks to improve water availability for learners and hostel operations as well as fruit trees for the school and hostel gardens, while shade trees were planted to mark Arbour Day.
Rössing’s Lived Legacy team donated succulent plants for the classrooms. Ekandjo encouraged learners to look after the facilities and resources, saying the improvements were made possible through cooperation between the company, its partners, the school and the community. The initiative forms part of Rössing Uranium’s community development efforts, which include support for education and environmental sustainability.
