A delegation from the Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board has visited the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) to study Ghana’s reforms in the gold sector, particularly efforts to improve trading, curb smuggling and promote responsible mining.
The delegation, led by its Chief Executive Officer, Alice Uwase, was received by GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi, Esq. During the visit, the Rwandan officials commended GoldBod for its work in reforming gold trading, licensing, mineral value addition and environmental protection.
Mr Gyamfi highlighted GoldBod’s contribution to Ghana’s economy, citing US$10.8 billion in gold export earnings in 2025 and US$11.6 billion recorded as of October 2026.
He also emphasised the importance of cooperation among African countries, urging them to share experiences and learn from one another to maximise the economic benefits of their natural resources.
GoldBod’s Director for Responsible Mining, Professor Ishmael Quaicoo, briefed the delegation on initiatives aimed at formalising small-scale mining, improving access to financing and promoting environmentally responsible gold processing.
