A cyclonic storm brewing over the Bay of Bengal is likely to bring heavy rainfall to parts of Bengal from October 28 to 30, the IMD said on Sunday.
The weather system, currently over the east-central Bay of Bengal as a depression, is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm before crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast on October 28 and moving northwestward thereafter, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Under its influence, squally winds are likely along and off the Bengal coast from October 27, while heavy rainfall is forecast in several districts over the following three days.
South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura and Purulia are likely to receive heavy rainfall between October 28 and 30, the IMD said.
The other districts of south Bengal are expected to receive light to moderate rain during the period.
In north Bengal, heavy rainfall is likely in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar districts on October 29 and 30, it said.
