KUANTAN: Pahang residents have been advised to limit outdoor activities, avoid open burning and wear face masks as the haze worsens.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said high-risk groups, including children, the elderly and those with respiratory problems, should take extra precautions.
"Parents and event organisers must take appropriate measures to minimise exposure to unhealthy air.
"Those experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention at the nearest healthcare facility without delay," he said in a statement.
Wan Rosdy said he was aware that the Pahang Education Department had ordered schools in Kuantan and Rompin to close tomorrow due to worsening haze and prevailing Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.
"The decision was made to safeguard the safety, health and well-being of students, teachers and the entire education community.
"The state government will continue to monitor developments closely with relevant agencies to ensure appropriate measures are taken in the people's best interests," he said.
Two air quality monitoring stations in Pahang recorded unhealthy air quality at 10pm today, with Balok Baru in Kuantan registering an API reading of 159 and Rompin recording 153.
