Five weeks into the 2026 season, the hierarchy of the AFC is clear. The Kansas City Chiefs sit at 4-0, but they are not the only team with a real shot at the crown. A new tier list from Arrowhead Pride puts the Buffalo Bills at the very top of the fear scale for Kansas City. Nate Christensen wrote that four teams can realistically win the conference, but he calls the Bills the scariest of the bunch. That is a bold claim for a team that just lost a tight game, but the numbers back it up.
The Bills Are the Real Threat
Buffalo’s offense is still a high-powered machine. Josh Allen leads the way with a run game and improved weapons that keep defenses guessing. Gregory Rousseau and Deone Walker have brought new life to their defensive line. The only flaw is a back seven that can be leaky, but that is a small price to pay for such a complete team. Christensen notes that while the Jaguars and Ravens are dangerous, the Bills have the best chance to knock off the Chiefs. If Kansas City wants the Super Bowl, they have to beat Buffalo first. The rest of the conference is just a warm-up act.
Why the Chargers Do Not Scare Anyone
Look at the other side of the bracket. The Los Angeles Chargers are 0-5 and struggling to find their footing. They are one of three teams with no wins entering Week 6. Kansas City hosts them on Sunday, Oct. 18, at Arrowhead Stadium. This is not a matchup that keeps fans up at night. The real worry is a team that can win three straight playoff games. The Chargers cannot even win one right now. Even with injuries to Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton, the Chiefs do not need to panic about a winless team. Rob Gronkowski told the Up & Adams show that he does not see a truly necessary reason to add a wide receiver at the trade deadline. He thinks the team is complete. That confidence makes sense when you look at who the real enemies are.
Focus on the Season, Not the Party
Patrick Mahomes admits he is so locked in on the season that he forgot Halloween was coming. He told reporters on Wednesday, Oct. 14, that his wife Brittany had to ask him what they were going to be for the holiday. “Once you get in season, you’re focused on that week,” Mahomes said at the press conference, according to People.com. “You focus on that week, then you try to win that week and then you move on to the next week.” He admitted, “It surprised me. I forgot about Halloween.” That level of focus is exactly why the Chiefs are still at the top. They are not worried about costumes or the 0-5 team in Los Angeles. They are worried about the 4-1 Bills. That is the only team that deserves their fear. The rest of the AFC is just noise.
