Following US President Donald Trump’s blaming of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky for high diesel prices, he announced that Russia and Ukraine had agreed on an energy ceasefire.
“Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” he wrote on his Truth Social network on Sunday (EuroNews).
There has been no word from Russia on the announcement, and Zelensky said he was still waiting to see details of the deal. “It was news for me. But if Russians agree to an energy ceasefire, Ukraine will agree,” Zelenskyy said (EuroNews).
It follows intense pressure from Trump for Ukraine to halt its attacks on Russian oil refineries. He blames those strikes for a rise in diesel prices (Reuters).
“I suggest they get a new leader who can make a deal because he could have made many deals and for some reason he never does,” Trump said about Zelensky over the weekend (AP).
