KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) is considering filing an appeal to the home minister over its deregistration by the Registrar of Societies (RoS).
PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said this was among several options the opposition coalition was considering to challenge the RoS's decision, in addition to the legal process.
“The Societies Act 1966 allows aggrieved parties to appeal to the minister within 30 days of the RoS's decision. PN will look into all actions that can be taken in court and at the administrative level,” he said at a press conference in Parliament.
Earlier today, the RoS announced that it had deregistered PN after finding that the coalition's response to a show-cause notice failed to justify retaining its registration.
While the High Court granted PN leave for judicial review of two notices sent by the RoS, the court did not grant an interim stay on the suspension of its activities.
Takiyuddin said PN would likely contest the Nov 14 Melaka polls under the banner of one of its components, although no decision had been made yet.
He nonetheless claimed the deregistration was akin to denying voters in Melaka the option of voting for PN candidates on polling day.
