Paris Saint-Germain manager, Luis Enrique has shut down comparisons between Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi ahead of Barcelona’s Champions League clash at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday.
The 19-year-old Yamal has had a terrific start to the season, scoring nine goals and grabbing 10 assists as Barcelona have recorded 11 straight wins.
Enrique, who coached Messi at Barcelona between 2014 and 2017, said no player can be compared to the Argentine.
At Monday’s pre-match press conference, he said, “Lamine Yamal is doing very well and improving every aspect of his game, but if you compare the best player of all time Lionel Messi with anyone else there will be only one winner.
“Maybe we can speak about that in the future. But right now Lamine Yamal is very intelligent and doing his best.
“You can not just defend individually against him, we must defend as a team.”
Meanwhile, France’s Interior Minister, Laurent Nuñez confirmed on Monday that this week’s UCL fixtures in the country, including PSG vs Barcelona and Lille vs Galatasaray on Wednesday, will go ahead as planned.
This is despite violent protests and looting that led to over 2,400 arrests, with Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu imposing limited localised curfews to restore order.
