Russian state TV anchor Vladimir Solovyov gloated over the deal between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin to send Russian diesel into the U.S. in exchange for an easing of sanctions on Moscow.
Ukraine and its allies condemned the agreement allowing Russia to supply millions of tons of diesel for allowing Moscow to fund its military machine and prolong a war Putin started.
During his Channel 1 show on Sunday, Putin ally Solovyov hailed the phone call between Trump and Putin for showing how “big diplomacy” can take place without any fuss, but after which “the world exploded.”
He told his panelists that the decision delivered a blow to Europe and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Trump directly thanked the Supreme Commander-in-chief,” said Solovyov with a smirk as he threw to a soundbite of the U.S. president expressing his gratitude at the Russian oil that would ease high prices at the pump.
“I’ve always liked Trump, I always realized that you had to calculate things with Trump,” said Solovyov, before introducing another soundbite of Trump responding to Zelensky’s criticism of the deal by saying, “I suggest they (Ukraine) get a new leader."
This is a developing story; more to follow.
