Uber has claimed victory in a £340 million legal battle brought by London black cab drivers and two private hire vehicle firms.
The ride-hailing app was sued in 2024 over allegations the company gave misleading information to Transport for London (TfL) to obtain a licence to operate in the capital in 2012.
The case was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Uber denied claims it had given “misleading and inaccurate information” to TfL and argued that the lawsuits were filed after the six-year limitation period to bring forward such a claim.
Damages of nearly £200 million were sought for 13,000 black cab drivers, while a claimant suing on behalf of Kabbie and Iride - which now no longer operates - was seeking around £140 million.
Now, a High Court judge has ruled that the cases were brought too late and dismissed them without considering whether the allegations were true.
Mr Justice Birt said the claimants could have discovered the alleged deception before 2018.
RGL management, which ran the case for the claimants, said it was “disappointed” by the ruling.
"We are obviously very disappointed and are considering all options available to the claimant cab drivers with the legal team,” it said in a statement.
An Uber spokesperson said: "Uber is proud to work with thousands of private hire and black cab drivers to serve millions of passengers across London.
"We are pleased that the court has dismissed all of these claims entirely at the earliest opportunity and the ruling today has put these legacy matters firmly in the past."
