Suhail Sajeev, 19, the key accused in the Nedumbassery car accident that claimed three lives, was taken to the accident spot along the Athani-Cochin International Airport Road for evidence collection and scene reconstruction on Thursday (October 15, 2026) morning.
He was brought to the site around 10 a.m., and the process was completed within 30 minutes. Later, he was taken to the Courtyard by Marriott in Nedumbassery, one of the three bars reportedly visited by him and the fellow accused, before the accident.
“A decision on whether to take the accused to the other two bars for evidence collection will be taken in consultation with the investigating officer. All four accused are being interrogated at the Nedumbassery police station,” police sources said. The State government on Wednesday (October 14, 2026) handed over the investigation into the case to Aluva DySP Baiju Paulose.
The Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Angamaly, had on Wednesday granted one day’s police custody of all four accused. They were returned to judicial custody on Thursday evening. The prosecution sought custodial interrogation to probe the possibility of a conspiracy or prior enmity behind the incident.
R. Nishanthini, IGP, South Zone, has been entrusted with hearing the complaints and concerns of the victims’ families. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had also announced the State government’s preparedness to appoint a special public prosecutor in the case.
On Wednesday, the State Excise Commissioner also suspended the licences of three bars in Ernakulam, namely Monsoon Empress, Palarivattom, Courtyard by Marriott, Nedumbassery, and Daya by Renai, Vyttila, on charges of serving liquor to the accused, who were below the age of 23. The licensees have also been issued show-cause notices.
