SEREMBAN: Five police reports have been lodged over the circulation of AI-generated nude images of female students at a secondary school here, with more than 300 students reportedly affected.
Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the reports were lodged by parents between Aug 20 and 23 over the distribution of images allegedly featuring the faces of female students.
In a press conference today, lawyer Ng Kian Nam said the incident came to light on Aug 12, when a Form Two student found a smartphone without a password in the school surau and discovered the explicit images.
He said the student sent the images to her 17-year-old sister's Instagram account before returning the phone to its original location.
"The images showed the faces of female students edited to appear nude using artificial intelligence (AI).
"The phone was later found by a disciplinary teacher and was believed to belong to a Form Five student at the school.
Ng said the five police reports were lodged on Aug 20, including one by the parents of the student who found the phone.
He added that the images were reportedly circulated among students and allegedly sold through Telegram.
Ng said a meeting involving parents and the school management board was held, following which they agreed to contact the state Education Department.
A further meeting involving parents, the Parent-Teacher Association, the school management board, school representatives and education department officers was held on Sept 15.
"At the meeting, the school acknowledged and confirmed that more than 300 students were affected by this," he said.
Ng said the school had suspended the male student believed to own the phone, in line with departmental procedures.
However, he said parents had not been informed about the status of the images involving their daughters or given a full account of what had happened.
He also said the parents of the student who found the phone were dissatisfied after their two children were asked to sign an undertaking not to disclose the incident, failing which they could face disciplinary action.
Ng said a letter had been sent to the Jalan Campbell police station calling for a more comprehensive investigation.
