Your homepage used to say something about you. When I got my first computer in high school, back when Google was just a weird name, my homepage was MSN. Later, in college, I changed it to ESPN—it was espn.go.com back then—and then to a new site called Facebook. By graduation, it was Google. Like a screensaver or background, the homepage represented a small part of our identity, but functionally, it crafted how we found information. If you're old enough, your experience of sorting through the internet was probably the same, evolving from homepages to RSS feeds, browser extensions, and apps. My latest guide to the internet is called TechPulse.
TechPulse is a free app with tech news, reviews, and culture from sites like CNET, PCMag, Mashable, and my team at Lifehacker. It's a clean feed with no algorithms or noise, featuring articles and videos that run the gamut from tech news to digital culture trends. If you're looking for hands-on, lab-tested reviews and advice on what tech to buy, you can prioritize CNET and PCMag coverage. If you already own a new piece of tech and are looking for practical hacks and productivity tips, you can sort through Lifehacker. For internet trends, movie reviews, and entertainment, you can browse Mashable. There are both articles and videos integrated directly into the app, streamlining your tech news intake into one place while still reading varied, unique perspectives.
It's obviously self-serving for me to talk about TechPulse and hope you give it a try, but I do think it's the best centralized hub for a broad range of news from sites with their own unique approaches to covering tech. TechPulse unifies those sites into a single platform that gives readers direct access to tech coverage in a chronological feed. My favorite part? No subscription is required. You don't even need to give your email address, sign up, or log in.
TechPulse features tech news written, filmed, and curated by real people, and I hope it feels like a breath of fresh air compared to the algorithm-driven feeds that warp to our unconscious whims and fight for our attention. You're welcome to customize the daily dashboard and better control your news, but if you prefer, you can leave it to TechPulse to keep you informed in a simple, straightforward way. I hope that the next time you read my work or catch a video, you find it there. TechPulse is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
