SEOUL, Oct. 13 (Yonhap) -- The presidential office has set up a task force to prepare for a potential golf outing between President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump later this year, sources said Tuesday.
Cheong Wa Dae formed the team shortly after Lee's trip to the United States and Mexico last month, during which he met Trump in New York, according to political sources.
During their summit talks, Trump instructed White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles to arrange a golf round with Lee.
While the golf session has not been confirmed, observers have raised the possibility that it could take place on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Miami in December.
"It is not just a casual round but a diplomatic event, and a task force is being run as thorough preparations are needed given that there aren't many precedents," a Cheong Wa Dae official said.
Lee has faced criticism from the main opposition People Power Party over his golf outing on Saturday, when a supermarket ceiling collapsed in the southeastern city of Daegu, leaving dozens injured.
Cheong Wa Dae had earlier disclosed Lee's golf session, noting that he had issued an order for thorough rescue operations from the golf course.
