Lisandro Martinez apparently had several reasons to call out the Manchester United hierarchy in his astonishing post-match outburst.
The Argentine stole the headlines on Tuesday evening with the shocking statements he made following the team’s Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Martinez roasted the management for failing to provide Michael Carrick with a competitive squad. He added that he expected more from the ‘technical director’, referring to Man Utd’s Director of Football Jason Wilcox.

The 28-year-old’s actions expectedly split opinions among fans and pundits. While a large section of the fanbase applauded him for having the courage to call the situation as it is, former Man Utd captains Roy Keane and Gary Neville felt Martinez was in the wrong for suggesting that his teammates aren’t good enough.
Moreover, there have been many speculations regarding the real reason behind Licha’s timing. Some claimed the defender has been dissatisfied with his current wages and is happy to rock the boat on his way out of the club.
The Sun journalist Katherin Walsh revealed that Martinez was particularly irritated with the decision to move Ayden Heaven (a centre-back by trade) to left-back against Atleti, highlighting the lack of options in a role that the management should have addressed in the summer.
But according to The Athletic, the reasons behind the rant run deeper, as the Argentine international has been irked by the club’s poor logistics, especially in their travels.
The source adds that Martinez is planning to become a sporting director after hanging up his boots, so he takes a particular interest in matters other players might consider secondary.

Following Thursday’s meeting with Carrick and club officials, Martinez released an official apology. United have reportedly fined the player and now consider the matter closed.
Therefore, the 2022 World Cup winner should be available at the manager’s disposal, but a 2027 exit seems inevitable, with neither party looking particularly pleased with the other.
Lisandro can leave the club as a free agent in June, as United are unlikely to activate their one-year option.
Martinez’s preferred next destination is said to be Spain. And with Atletico Madrid expressing their interest in the player last summer, an ironic return to the Metropolitano- the stage of his instantly epic interview– cannot be ruled out.
