BJP state president Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Monday warned that protests and incidents involving the security convoys of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Vice President CP Radhakrishnan during their visits to Keralam could hurt relations between the Centre and the state.
In a Facebook post, Chandrasekhar shared images of Prime Minister Narendra Modi being welcomed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay during his recent visit to that state. Referring to recent incidents in Keralam, he said such developments could create an impression of strained ties and could also affect investment and jobs.
Chandrasekhar referred to a Youth Congress protest against Shah during the Union minister's recent visit to Kollam. He also mentioned an incident in which two youngsters on a motorcycle came close to the Vice President's convoy during his visit to Keralam.
Describing these incidents as "petty political theatrics", Chandrasekhar said they could have serious consequences or at least send out a message that relations between the Centre and the state were under strain. He warned that the fallout could affect investments and employment opportunities in Keralam.
"The victims of such low-level politics are not politicians, but ordinary Malayalis who live in the hope of jobs and development," he said.
Chandrasekhar added that politicians would not have to bear the consequences, but ordinary people waiting for development would be forced to face hardship again and again.
He also alleged that the Congress's "politics of lies" would lead to continued unemployment, high inflation and a lack of development, which he said Keralam had faced during the previous 10 years of Pinarayi Vijayan's rule.
The BJP had also staged protests by blocking Keralam ministers across the state in response to the Youth Congress agitation against Shah.
Chandrasekhar's remarks summed up the party's stand that such protests and incidents could damage ties with the Centre and affect people hoping for jobs and development.
