The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has raised the alarm over an alleged attempt by some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to subvert the party, damage its electoral fortunes and undermine its role in efforts to build a credible opposition coalition.
In a statement signed by the PRP National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the party alleged that some of its former members were being used to create the impression of division within its ranks.
It also accused some strategically placed party officials of working to weaken the party and sabotage its grassroots support.
Baba-Ahmed urged party members to resist attempts to bribe them, alleging that efforts were underway to recruit polling agents for the party and that huge sums of money had been budgeted to buy off party officials and cause division within the PRP.
The statement read: “The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has been following attempts to subvert it and cause irreparable damage to its electoral fortunes and its place in the popular attempt to build a credible opposition coalition.
“It is now clear that attempts are being made to use some subversive and disgraced former members of the party to create impressions of division in the party, as well as use strategically placed officers of the party to weaken it and sabotage its grassroots support.
“These efforts are being linked with senior members of the ruling party who are being persuaded to fund this scheme with hundreds of millions of naira.

“The party hereby alerts its members and the public to these attempts and warns against the temptation to support these subversive elements. In particular, attempts to recruit polling agents for the party by persons with no authority to do so should be resisted. Huge amounts of money may be available to buy members’ support for opposition candidates by party officials.
“These efforts should be resisted and exposed. The persons in the governing party involved in this scheme have been advised to steer clear of the PRP and distance themselves from attempts to create a fictional PRP with their party’s funds and their names. Serving officers of the party involved in this scheme will face disciplinary measures.
“The leadership of the PRP wishes to assure its candidates and party supporters that it will not sacrifice their commitments and loyalty at any price.
“The party is committed to providing a befitting challenge to the continuation of this administration beyond 2027, as well as its role in building a potential winning coalition.”
