DETROIT − The Green Bay Packers activated running back Josh Jacobs and nose tackle Jordon Riley, and signed receiver Coleman Owen for their game against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Ford Field.
Jacobs had missed the first six games of the year while on the commissioner’s exempt list after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges related to altercation with his ex-girlfriend in May. Jacobs practiced this week for the first time since training camp.
Jacobs may not start, but he's expected to play a significant amount given how poor the Packers' run game has been and how much they'll need a balanced offense against the Lions.
Riley has been on the physically-unable-to-perform list since the start of training camp. Riley tore his Achilles in a Week 17 game against Baltimore last season and started practicing two weeks ago.
Riley fills a nose tackle position weakened by injuries. The Packers stuck with him based on his play after being signed off the New York Giants' practice squad late last year.
Owen was signed to the practice squad after Week 3 and made his debut as a punt returner in the victory over Dallas. Owen was returned to the practice squad, but the Packers decided to sign him to the 53-man roster.
The Packers did not have to make corresponding moves with their 53-man roster because they had placed nose tackle Jonathan Ford, defensive tackle Javon Hargrove and receiver Skyy Moore on injured reserve last week.
The Packers also elevated edge rusher Arron Mosby from the practice squad to the 53-man roster for game day.
The Lions made two moves, adding safety Brian Branch and center Cade Mays to their 53-man roster. Both were on injured lists and had not played this season.
