The Policy, Strategy and Leadership Course Association of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies has pledged to strengthen Nigeria’s policy implementation framework through sustained engagement with government and other stakeholders.
The National President of the association, Dr Ekpa Ekpa, said its network of more than 5,000 graduates in policy, strategy and leadership was positioned to help translate government policies into tangible benefits for Nigerians.
Ekpa said this in a statement issued on Friday ahead of the association’s National Policy Implementation Conference scheduled to hold in Abuja under the theme, “From Policy to Development: A Review of the Impact of Nigeria’s Policy Process.”
He said the conference would bring together policymakers, regulators, industry representatives and other stakeholders to examine Nigeria’s policy implementation record and identify solutions to persistent challenges.
Ekpa said the association would sustain the engagement beyond the conference by organising members into thematic sectors to address implementation gaps over the following year.
“The focus of the conference goes beyond the conference. Each member of PSLC is grouped into a thematic sector after the conference, and PSLC as a community works around those thematic sectors’ topics through the next year,” he said.
The conference will review Nigeria’s policy implementation experience from 1960 to 2026, examining initiatives such as banking reforms, telecommunications liberalisation and the Pension Reform Act 2004, alongside challenges in education, universal health coverage, solid waste management and local government service delivery.
The Chairman of the association’s board, Brigadier General E.Z. Karau, said Nigeria needed effective mechanisms to assess whether government policies were being implemented as intended and delivering benefits to their target populations.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Conference Planning Committee, Dr Grace Dauda, said the event would provide a platform for concrete discussions on the country’s public policy priorities.
“The conference will not just be another talk show but a platform for concrete review of Nigeria’s public policy priorities,” she said.
The organisers said the conference was expected to produce recommendations for a time-bound National Implementation Roadmap, model implementation checklists, a subnational capacity-building plan and an accountability and monitoring dashboard.
They said the initiative would help identify institutional and operational barriers to effective governance and improve public service delivery ahead of the 2027 general elections.
