Phantom, the wallet most people downloaded to hold Solana tokens, has turned into a serious derivatives venue. The company announced on October 15, 2026 that its perpetual futures product has passed $50 billion in cumulative trading volume.
That figure was built by 192,000 traders across millions of positions. It took just over a year.
From launch to $50 billion
Phantom rolled out perps trading in July 2025. The product plugs users directly into Hyperliquid’s on-chain order book without making them leave the wallet.
The early numbers moved quickly. Volume hit approximately $1.8 billion in the first 16 days and reached $5 billion within five weeks.
By late December 2025, cumulative volume stood at $26 billion. At that point, Phantom counted 85K traders and $100M in net deposits.
The jump from $26 billion to more than $50 billion means volume nearly doubled after the year-end checkpoint. The trader count, meanwhile, grew from 85K to 192,000 over the same stretch.
Independent data lines up with the company’s claims. DefiLlama shows cumulative Phantom Perps volume nearing $51.8 billion as of mid-October 2026, with 30-day volume running between $2.5 billion and $3.5 billion.
Phantom credited its users for the milestone, along with its partners HyperliquidX and trade.xyz.
What traders are actually getting
The menu is broader than a typical crypto-only perps app. Phantom offers over 100 markets spanning crypto perps plus equity, commodity, and index perps.
Leverage on crypto markets goes up to 40x. Everything settles in USDC, the dollar-pegged stablecoin.
The business model behind the volume
Phantom charges a 0.05% builder fee on top of Hyperliquid’s base trading rates. Hyperliquid’s builder system lets third-party apps route orders to the exchange and collect their own cut.
Phantom’s perps product has generated over $20M in cumulative revenue, which makes it the top revenue earner among all Hyperliquid builders.
The geographic fine print
The product is not available everywhere. Phantom’s perps trading remains blocked in the United States, the United Kingdom, and several other regions.
Those exclusions point to regulatory constraints around leveraged derivatives in major markets. The US and UK are two of the largest pools of retail trading activity, so Phantom built its $50 billion largely without them.
What this means
The clearest signal is that wallets are becoming trading terminals. Phantom’s numbers show that users will happily trade leveraged products where they already hold assets, rather than bridging funds to a separate exchange.
The 30-day volume range from DefiLlama offers a useful health check going forward. Monthly figures between $2.5 billion and $3.5 billion indicate steady activity rather than a one-time launch spike.
Phantom’s growth also depends heavily on a single backend. Any disruption, outage, or policy change at Hyperliquid would flow directly to Phantom’s perps users.
