Switzerland stands ready to assist the process of normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan. OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Swiss Vice President, and Head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Ignazio Cassis, on Thursday stated this during a press conference in Yerevan.
Cassis noted that during his meeting with Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ararat Mirzoyan, the situation in the South Caucasus was discussed, among other matters.
Switzerland welcomes the positive dynamics recorded and the peace prevailing on the ground after the initialing of the peace document between Armenia and Azerbaijan. These achievements create an opportunity for sustainable peace, which is extremely important not only for Armenia and Azerbaijan, but also for the entire region. There are challenges in the humanitarian sphere, which they have also discussed, Cassis noted.
He urged the two countries not to slow down their actions to reach a peace treaty and actual normalization of relations.
Based on its own experience, Switzerland is ready to assist in this process if the parties express such a desire, Cassis added.
And reflecting on the geopolitical situation, Ignazio Cassis said that in conflicts it is necessary to give priority to diplomacy, for which the OSCE platform provides ample opportunities.
