Polio-Free Afghanistan says that as long as polio exists in one place, children everywhere else remain at risk of the disease.
On Thursday, October 22, the organisation called on the public in a post on X to help ensure that all children are vaccinated and that no child is left without access to vaccination.
The statement comes as polio continues to circulate in Afghanistan, with the United Nations reporting several positive cases of the disease in different provinces across the country.
The World Health Organization (WHO) had announced that 42 cases of wild poliovirus type 1 had been recorded in Afghanistan in 2026.
According to a United Nations report, a total of 48 polio cases have been identified in Afghanistan and Pakistan this year, including 42 in Afghanistan and six in Pakistan.
