Tottenham Hotspur secured back-to-back victories after defeating Chelsea 2-0 in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge, claiming just their second league win in 37 visits to the ground.
Both sides entered the encounter on the back of victories, although Tottenham’s win over Coventry had been their first of the season.
Under torrential rain in London, the opening half was cautious, with Tottenham enjoying much of the possession while Chelsea looked to exploit mistakes from their opponents.
Chelsea, who were without their top scorer Joao Pedro, created the first significant opportunity when Cole Palmer’s curling effort towards the top corner was tipped behind by goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. At the other end, Mohamed Kudus fired wide from a similar position.
Tottenham gradually grew more comfortable on the ball and came close to taking the lead when Omar Marmoush fired straight at Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders.
Chelsea threatened as half-time approached, but Kinsky kept out Jordan Henderson’s effort from just inside the penalty area before gathering Pedro Neto’s low drive.
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Tottenham dominating possession without creating many clear chances. The next shot on target came shortly after the hour mark, when Neto fired straight at Kinsky from a dangerous position.
