The Senate has called for a comprehensive audit of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft fleet to establish the airworthiness of its platforms and prevent further military aviation accidents.
The resolution follows a fatal military aircraft crash in Ondo State, which claimed the lives of 25 officers and seven crew members, according to the statement.
The lawmakers also demanded a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident to establish its cause and ensure accountability.
As part of the resolution, the Senate mandated its Committees on Air Force and Aviation to examine the serviceability of the Air Force fleet and review budgetary allocations to the service.
The Senate observed a minute of silence in honour of the victims.
Meanwhile, the upper chamber has postponed its two-day National Security Summit, which was scheduled for October 12 and 13, in honour of the victims and in line with the three-day national mourning declared by President Bola Tinubu.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele announced the postponement in a statement issued in Abuja.
The proposed fleet audit is expected to focus attention on aircraft maintenance, operational readiness and the funding required to sustain safe military aviation operations.
