Durga Puja is here, and you’re busy with a skincare routine and glamorous makeup to ace the festive days. But hold on — what if a pimple pops up on your forehead suddenly? An absolute catastrophe!
With rising pollution levels and all the fried festive treats, our skin becomes more prone to dullness and breakouts. And can we really afford to take that chance during Puja? There’s a good possibility that your long-shelved ethnic suit and dewy makeup look will go completely unnoticed if your skin looks dull.
My Kolkata got in touch with Kolkata experts, who explained how you can eat your way through Durga Puja without compromising with your inner glow.
Srabani Mukherjee, chief dietician at Fortis Hospital Anandapur, said that balancing a well-nourished diet is the key to retaining your skin’s natural glow. She said, “Maintain a well-balanced diet rich in antioxidants, including a variety of colourful fruits and vegetables. Include whole grains, sprouted grains and nuts in your daily meals and stay well hydrated by drinking adequate fluids—ideally around 3 litres of water a day, depending on your individual needs.”
Poulomi Roy, CMO of Joy Personal Care seconded Mukherjee, emphasising on skin’s required hydration.
“Puja is all about dressing up, soaking in the festive ambience, admiring the beautiful pandal decorations, and enjoying the celebrations. However, the heat, humidity, and time spent outdoors can take a toll on your skin. Keeping your skin well-hydrated beforehand is key to making your makeup last longer, and moisturising after removing makeup is vital for post-makeup care. We believe that skincare routines should be simple, accessible, and effective especially during busy times like festivals, when you want your skin to retain its natural glow,” she said.
Mukherjee also said if one is planning to eat out during the festive season, they must try to limit it to one meal a day and keep your other meals home-cooked and balanced. Go with healthier choices such as fruit salads, whole grain chaat, low-fat milkshakes and low-fat yoghurt. Staying hydrated with water and other healthy fluids can also help you maintain a balanced diet.
“Stay well hydrated throughout the day by drinking plenty of water and healthy fluids such as lemon water, lassi, coconut water, sattu water and clear soups. Herbal tea and green tea can also be included in moderation as refreshing beverage options,” she said.
