Arsenal Tracking Leonard Prescott as Bayern Munich Contract Uncertainty Grows
Arsenal are closely monitoring the situation of Bayern Munich goalkeeper Leonard Prescott, with the teenager emerging as a serious name to watch as his contract edges towards expiry. TeamTalk report that the Gunners are assessing whether there is an opening to move for one of Germany’s standout young prospects, and the circumstances around his future appear increasingly relevant.
Prescott, 17, has built a significant reputation since joining Bayern from Union Berlin in 2023. The American-born goalkeeper, who represents Germany internationally, is described as “a generational talent in Germany” and his progress has clearly not gone unnoticed. He was named on the first-team bench for a Bundesliga match earlier this year at the age of 16, a strong indication of the esteem in which he is held.
Yet there is an important detail shaping the market here. TEAMtalk understands that Prescott’s current deal “expires at the end of the season”, and Bayern are finding it difficult to secure an extension with the player and his representatives. That alone is enough to alert major clubs, and Arsenal are now among those paying very close attention.
Leonard Prescott contract talks raise Arsenal opportunity
The central issue appears to be pathway. Bayern remain one of Europe’s elite environments for young talent, but opportunities at senior level are difficult to guarantee, especially in specialist positions such as goalkeeper. Prescott’s camp are believed to have concerns about identifying “a clear route to regular first-team opportunities in Munich”, and that concern looks understandable.
Manuel Neuer, now 40, is still performing to a high level, with the expectation that he “could retire next year”. Even then, Bayern seem to have their next option lined up already. Jonas Urbig, 23, is viewed internally as a credible successor, which only sharpens the uncertainty around where Prescott fits in the medium term.
That backdrop has created a window for interested clubs. TEAMtalk state that several German sides are attentive, while Chelsea, Tottenham and Juventus have admired the youngster over a longer period. Arsenal, though, are now in the race and could make a compelling case if they decide to progress.

Arsenal goalkeeper plans under fresh scrutiny
Arsenal’s interest also comes at a notable time in their own goalkeeping planning. David Raya remains the established No 1, but his recent comments have naturally prompted discussion about the long-term picture at the Emirates Stadium. Raya has less than two years remaining on his contract and was candid about his ambitions when asked about one day playing in Spain.
He said: “Yes, I would love to. I would love to try out LaLiga. For now, I’m very happy here [at Arsenal], but I would certainly like to experience the Spanish league.
“I think it’s a very competitive league. Perhaps, in the future, I could play for a Spanish club. I’m Spanish, and I’d love to play there – that’s for sure.”
There is no indication in the report that Raya is pushing to leave now. In fact, the message is clear that he is content in north London. Even so, elite clubs are constantly looking ahead, and succession planning in the goalkeeping department is a logical part of that process. Prescott may be young, but Arsenal’s recruitment model has shown before that they are prepared to move early for players they believe can develop into senior assets.
Battle for Bayern Munich wonderkid could intensify
For Prescott, the appeal of Arsenal may rest in the clarity of the project presented to him. TEAMtalk report that Arsenal “could present Prescott with an attractive opportunity to accelerate his progress towards senior football”, and that point could become decisive if Bayern cannot reassure him over his route to the top level.
The competition for his signature is real and varied, spanning Germany, England and Italy. That means this is not a straightforward chase, and Arsenal would need to convince both the player and his camp that their development plan is stronger than the alternatives on offer.
What is evident is that Leonard Prescott has moved into a high-interest bracket. Contract uncertainty at Bayern Munich, concern over first-team opportunities and Arsenal’s watchful presence combine to make this one of the more intriguing youth situations to follow in the months ahead.
Our View
This feels exactly the sort of move Arsenal should be exploring. Leonard Prescott may still be only 17, but the profile is obvious. If Bayern Munich are hesitating and the player’s camp are uncertain about the route ahead, there is an opportunity for a smart club to step in with a stronger plan.
The key word here is pathway. Arsenal do not need to promise something unrealistic, but they do need to show a structure. If Prescott can see a route through training exposure, domestic cup involvement over time and a clear development model, that can be persuasive. Young goalkeepers need patience, coaching and belief. They also need to know they are not walking into a dead end.
Raya’s comments add another layer. Nobody is saying he is leaving tomorrow, and there is no reason for alarm, but top clubs have to think two or three years in advance. That is what this looks like. It is sensible, forward-looking recruitment.
There is also something encouraging about Arsenal competing for elite young talent again. If a player is regarded as “a generational talent in Germany”, Arsenal should absolutely be in the conversation. Bayern, Chelsea, Tottenham and Juventus all hovering around tells its own story. This is not about short-term headlines, it is about securing quality before the market fully explodes.
If Arsenal can turn interest into a convincing project, this is the kind of deal that could look very clever a few years down the line.
