Chaos erupted in Delft South on Wednesday evening when groups of teenagers started throwing stones at each other and passing cars, leaving residents and motorists scared to make their way home.
At about 6.30pm, two groups of youngsters were seen running through the streets and throwing stones while people were on their way home from work. Some cars and house windows were damaged.
A Neighbourhood Watch member said it was unclear what had sparked the stone-throwing.
The crime fighter said: “The day before, tyres were being burned because the electricity was going on and off. Then, on Wednesday, we had these teenagers throwing stones at each other and anyone who got in their way.
“It starts with a fight between these kids, then they target innocent people.
“I have asked around to try to get to the bottom of what happened... but nobody can say what they were going on about.”
One resident said they were on their way home from work when they saw a warning in a crime group.
The local said: “I was on my way home from work when I saw a message in the crime group warning people to be careful because there was a gang fight going on.
“When I arrived in the area, I saw these boys, some of them even bare-chested... I wasn’t sure what was going on. I just wanted to get away and get home.”
