Abdullah Khenjani, spokesperson for the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, says the Taliban consider Panjshir a strategic threat and have deployed nearly 30,000 fighters in the province.
Khenjani said on Tuesday, October 20, that the Taliban had established around 700 security outposts in Panjshir, with between 30 and 40 Taliban fighters stationed at each outpost.
According to him, the outposts have been positioned so that each one is within sight of another.
The spokesperson for the National Resistance Front added that the number of Taliban fighters in Panjshir is twice the number deployed at border outposts along the border with Pakistan.
He also accused the Taliban of heavily militarizing Panjshir, suppressing the province’s residents, and treating people from Panjshir discriminatorily.
Khenjani added that the Taliban had turned being from Panjshir into a political crime.
He further said the Taliban were killing Panjshir residents without “historical restraint or a sense of national solidarity.”
