Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, 69, arrives at court charged with 17 offences against nine women over 33-year period

Tim Westwood has arrived at court over fresh sexual offence allegations, as he faces a total of 17 charges against nine women between 1983 and 2016.

The former BBC Radio 1 DJ was charged in September with indecently assaulting a teenage girl aged 16 or 17 in 1991 and sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman in 2004.

The 69-year-old previously pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape, nine counts of indecent assault and two counts of sexual assault, and is due to face trial at Southwark Crown Court in January.

He faces a total of 17 charges against nine women between 1983 and 2016.

The alleged incidents in the latest charges supposedly took place in south-west London, the teenager in Hammersmith and Fulham and the young woman in Wandsworth.

Westwood was first charged in October last year with the original 15 offences, including three indecent assaults alleged to have taken place at the BBC in the 1990s and a rape in a hotel in 1996.

Westwood is further accused of two indecent assaults and one count of rape from the early 2000s at a London address, and two counts of rape at a London address in the 2010s.

He is also alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman at a nightclub in Stroud, Gloucestershire, in 2010.

Speaking after the charges were announced in September, Catherine P Baccas, Crown Prosecution Service deputy chief crown prosecutor, said: 'Mr Westwood is already charged with nine counts of indecent assault, two counts of sexual assault and four counts of rape in relation to reported non-recent offences between 1983 and 2016 involving seven women.

'These new charges, following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police, relate to separate reports of non-recent offences in 1991 and 2004 involving two additional women.

'Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring these additional charges to court and that it is in the public interest to pursue further criminal proceedings.

'The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that criminal proceedings are active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial.'

Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy said: 'The women who have made reports have placed their trust in us and we remain committed to providing them with all available support.

'Independent support is also available through Rape Crisis via its 24/7 Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Line.'
