TVC News Online is retracting the report with the above headline, which linked a man identified as Caleb Bulus Pam to an alleged cattle rustling and militia group in Plateau State.
The report, published on September 26, 2026, erroneously identified Pam as Mabwe Zakaria and described him as an alleged cattle rustler arrested at a market with stolen cattle.
However, the Berom community disputed the report, insisting that Pam was neither involved in cattle rustling nor arrested at any market in Plateau State.
The community, through its solicitors, S. D. DIDO & CO (Zen Chambers), also challenged the reference to a “Berom Militia”, describing it as unsubstantiated and potentially damaging to the reputation of the Berom people.
In a petition to TVC Communications, the lawyers said the report wrongly associated their clients with criminal activities and stigmatised the ethnic group.
“Caleb Bulus Pam whose picture is on your publication, subject matter of this letter, did not steal any cattle and was never caught at any market with stolen cattle. He equally does not belong to any militia group, and our clients jointly deny the existence of a “Berom Militia” group as same remains within the realm of conjectures and speculations with no supporting facts,” part of the lawyer’s letter read.
TVC News Online has now retracted the report in its entirety.
