MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff escaped serious injury after unidentified gunmen opened fire on his vehicle in Mumbai's Juhu area on Sunday evening.
Two other people were reportedly injured in the incident.
The shooting occurred at about 7pm on Oct 18 as Tiger was leaving Pushpa Park after a football session. According to police, three men on a motorcycle approached the actor's car and opened fire as he was preparing to leave.
Tiger's father, veteran actor Jackie Shroff, reassured the public that his son was safe.
"Tiger is okay," his team said, while Jackie later told Rediff: "All okay. Tiger is at the police station. He is unhurt. His driver was injured in the hand."
Police confirmed that Tiger did not sustain any gunshot wounds.
His driver, identified as Firdaus, suffered a hand injury, while another man, identified as Umesh Chavan, sustained a bullet wound.
Both were taken for medical treatment, with the driver reported to be out of danger.
Maharashtra minister Ashish Shelar said he had talked to Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti about the incident.
"Tiger had gone to play football. The incident took place when he was returning home after playing football. His driver is injured in the attack, but he is safe," Shelar said.
Mumbai Police have launched an investigation, with specialist teams examining CCTV footage and forensic evidence to identify the suspects and establish their motive.
The actor was later seen returning home under police escort.
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has been linked to the attack through claims circulated on social media, but police have not independently confirmed the group's involvement.
Investigators are also working to piece together the sequence of events and determine how the attackers fled the scene.
The shooting has renewed concerns about security in Mumbai's film industry following previous attacks and threats involving Bollywood personalities.
Authorities have pledged to investigate the incident thoroughly and bring those responsible to justice.
