Dubai: Got laundry on the line? Spending time outdoors? You may want to rethink your plans. Winds are strengthening across the UAE today, with gusts of up to 45km/h expected to stir up dust in open and desert regions.
Dust warning
The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) forecasts fair to partly cloudy weather today, in general, with light to moderate winds turning strong at times, causing blowing dust. Wind speeds are expected to increase to 40km/h along coastal areas, and to 45km/h in internal areas, kicking up dust in open or desert regions.
The NCM advises residents and visitors to be cautious in such conditions by limiting exposure to dust, keeping your airways covered, and ensuring your windows and doors are closed to strong gusts of wind.
Rainfall expected
There is also a chance of some convective cloud formation in eastern regions, extending to some internal and western areas. By this afternoon, the NCM expects a probability of rainfall in places like Ras Al Khaimah, Khor Fakkan, and Al Ain.
Humidity is also set to increase by tonight and Friday morning over some coastal and internal areas, with a high chance of fog or mist formation in cities like Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Temperatures in the mid-30s
Temperatures are holding steady in the mid-30s across the UAE today.
Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Ras Al Khaimah will reach 38°C today, while Dubai will peak at 37°C. Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah will reach 36°C, while Ajman will be the coolest emirate today, at 35°C.
Moderate sea conditions in the west
The NCM expects slight sea conditions in the Sea of Oman, with gentle waves rising to two feet on-shore and up to three feet off-shore.
However, the Arabian Gulf will see slight to moderate conditions today, with waves on-shore rising to two feet, and waves off-shore rising to four feet.
