KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) and Malayan Banking Bhd have entered into a multi-year partnership to improve access to Malaysia’s healthcare services for Maybank customers across Asean.
The collaboration will connect Maybank’s regional customer base with MHTC’s healthcare network, providing information on medical treatment, healthcare facilities, and support services available in Malaysia. The initiative is expected to expand into additional priority markets from 2027.
The partnership builds on MHTC and Maybank’s joint participation at MH WellFest Cambodia 2026 in early October, where Malaysian healthcare workers delivered health talks and personal consultations.
Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore have been identified as priority markets for the next phase of the initiative.
MHTC chief executive officer Suriaghandi Suppiah said seeking medical treatment abroad involves more than choosing a hospital.
Patients must also navigate unfamiliar healthcare systems, manage costs, and make arrangements for accompanying family members.
He said that while Malaysia has 91 MHTC-accredited healthcare facilities, ensuring patients can reach and use those services is just as important.
“Quality alone does not bring a patient to our door. Access does,” Suriaghandi said at the signing ceremony at Menara Merdeka Maybank.
“We will build on what we have learned in Cambodia, refine it together, and measure what works. Where the results support it, we will take this approach to other priority markets across Asean from 2027,” he said.
The initial rollout will see Maybank Premier clients in Cambodia access healthcare and wellness information through MHTC’s network.
In Indonesia, customers will have access to healthcare-related privileges and support.
MHTC will also help Malaysian private hospitals reach more international patients through Maybank’s Asean customer base.
Maybank group chief executive officer of community financial services Syed Ahmad Taufik Albar said the collaboration reflects the bank’s efforts to support customers whose needs increasingly extend beyond conventional banking.
“Across Asean, our customers lead increasingly mobile lives, with needs and priorities that extend across markets. With a banking network spanning 10 Asean countries, Maybank is well-positioned to meet these evolving needs in ways that go beyond traditional banking,” he said in a joint statement.
The partnership supports the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026 initiative and the health ministry’s efforts to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a preferred medical tourism destination.
