SIX Malaysian men suspected of operating an online gambling syndicate targeting Australian customers have been arrested following a police raid on a three-storey terrace house in Kamunting, Taiping, on Tuesday.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the raid was conducted at 8.05pm by officers from the state contingent’s Commercial Crime Investigation Department and the Taiping district police headquarters.
Police seized 18 mobile phones, 10 computer monitors, six central processing units and a router, with the equipment estimated to be worth RM35,000.
“The syndicate used Telegram and WeChat to communicate with victims.
“They also used profile pictures of European women to attract customers to join the gambling platforms,” he told a press conference at the Perak police contingent headquarters on Friday.
Investigations found that the group allegedly promoted several online gambling platforms specifically targeting Australian customers, including one2bet-aus, roladoll-aus and majesty777-aus.
Mohd Alwi said SIM cards found in the seized phones used Australian telecommunications lines, while Australian bank accounts were allegedly used to collect payments from customers.
The gambling packages offered ranged from A$30 to A$200, he said.
The syndicate is believed to have been operating since July, with the six suspects acting as agents responsible for recruiting customers and promoting the platforms.
They allegedly used the back entrance of the rented property to move in and out without attracting the attention of the authorities.
The suspects, aged between 22 and 31, were reportedly paid between RM6,000 and RM10,000 a month for their roles.
Mohd Alwi said all six had been remanded for four days until Oct 24 to assist investigations under Sections 420 and 120B of the Penal Code, relating to cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Police are continuing investigations to establish how many Australians may have been victimised and whether the suspects operated similar activities elsewhere before moving to Perak. - October 23, 2026
