Guwahati, Oct 21: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that encroachment on more than 638 hectares of land across three districts has been cleared in recent eviction drives. The operations, carried out in Golaghat, Hojai, and Nagaon, targeted forest areas that had been illegally occupied.
Sarma, in a social media post, described the action as the “Rudra Roop” of the administration, emphasizing that the government remains committed to safeguarding the state’s interests. Officials confirmed that around 1,000 families were evicted from protected forest zones during the exercise.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the eviction drives were part of a broader effort to secure Assam’s resources and ensure that encroached land is restored to its rightful status.
