For the Spring/Summer 2027 season, designers turned their attention to accessories. An evolution of the “lipstick effect” theory—the idea that during a recession, people turn to quick pick-me-up items rather than expensive alternatives—a focus on hats, gloves, or jewelry can often reflect the consumer habits, and overall economic state, of the time. Funky, oversize belts (like the ones seen on the Valentino and Junya Watanabe runways) and intricate shoes (McQueen’s armor heels were a particular standout) offer a way to freshen up a wardrobe without buying a whole new look. And that’s just the approach that Jennifer Lawrence took for her latest New York City commute.

An avid bike rider, the Hunger Games star was seen cruising through the city, likely having just dropped off her kids (their seats were empty and their helmets were in the basket). For the outing, she kept things simple with a white tank top, classic faded blue jeans, and a pair of black flip flops. But around her waist, she sported a wide studded belt that took the timeless ensemble from simple to rockstar-cool.

Reminiscent of the Y2K indie-sleaze fashions and the punk era that predated it, the black accessory featured rows of silver-tone metal studs. Too big to slip through the designated belt loops, it wrapped around the waistband of Lawrence’s jeans, commanding extra attention.
While the actor’s own accessory stayed loyal to the OG look, houses such as Khaite, Veronica Beard, Isabel Marant, Tory Burch, and Loewe have put their own stamps on the trend—experimenting with stud patterns and width, and ushering in a welcome revival.
