The digital identity project built by Tools for Humanity expands into financial services and rolls out its video verification tool broadly.
World has released a new World ID offering built specifically for banks, according to reports from The Block and CryptoBriefing. The launch extends the company's biometric identity system beyond its original consumer and crypto-focused use cases into regulated financial services.
World ID is the identity layer of the World network, built by Tools for Humanity. The system relies on iris-scanning hardware, known as the Orb, to generate a unique digital credential tied to a verified human. The stated goal has been to create a way for people to prove they are real humans online, distinct from bots or AI-generated accounts.
Banks face growing pressure to verify customer identities quickly while guarding against fraud. Identity checks, often called know-your-customer or KYC processes, are a core requirement for opening accounts and moving money. A biometric-based verification suite could offer banks another tool for confirming that an applicant or account holder is a genuine, unique individual.
Alongside the banking suite, World also made its deepfake detection feature for Zoom calls available to all users. The tool had previously been offered on a limited basis. Its purpose is to flag when a video call participant may be an AI-generated likeness rather than a real person speaking live.
Deepfake video and audio have become a more visible fraud vector in recent years. Criminals have used synthetic video to impersonate executives, request wire transfers, or bypass identity checks during remote verification calls. A built-in check inside a widely used conferencing platform like Zoom could give businesses an added layer of defense during sensitive virtual meetings.
World's broader strategy has centered on positioning its identity credential as infrastructure that other companies and institutions can plug into, rather than a standalone app. Expanding into banking and workplace tools like Zoom reflects an effort to find paying enterprise use cases beyond individual sign-ups. The company has not disclosed which banks, if any, are currently testing or deploying the new suite.
Market Impact
News of the banking suite and the wider Zoom rollout could renew attention on World's native token, WLD, since enterprise adoption has long been cited as a path toward sustained demand for the network's identity infrastructure. Financial institutions weighing biometric identity tools will likely scrutinize data privacy practices and regulatory treatment of iris-scan credentials before any broad adoption.
The deepfake detection expansion also lands amid heightened industry concern over AI-generated fraud in corporate settings, which may increase interest in similar verification features from competing identity and video-conferencing providers.
World's push into bank-facing identity tools and wider deepfake detection signals an effort to turn biometric verification into practical enterprise infrastructure, though actual adoption by financial institutions remains to be seen.
