Why Snoop Huntley gives Ravens ‘wiggle room’ before Lamar Jackson’s return appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Baltimore Ravens can afford to be patient with Lamar Jackson. Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is the biggest reason why. Jackson was officially ruled out of Sunday’s divisional showdown against the Cleveland Browns after failing to practice throughout the week. That leaves Baltimore to lean on its trusted backup for another game. NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport explained on The Insiders that Jackson is dealing with an unusual ankle sprain that does not fit the typical high- or low-ankle classification.

“It is one where the Ravens literally had to see how Lamar Jackson progressed before knowing whether or not he’d be able to take the field,” Rapoport said.
Early optimism surrounded Jackson’s potential return. However, playing below full strength would have carried unnecessary risks. Instead, Huntley took all the first-team repetitions, giving Baltimore a viable alternative while its franchise quarterback continues recovering. Huntley’s three-touchdown performance in Week 5 against the Atlanta Falcons powered a 30-23 road victory. It has also eased the urgency surrounding Jackson’s availability. At 4-1, the Ravens have valuable breathing room rather than a desperate need to rush their star back into action.
Signed by Baltimore as an undrafted free agent out of Utah in 2020, Huntley has built a reputation as a dependable backup. His mobility and quick-release rhythm suit the Ravens’ offense. He stepped into starting duties during injury-hit stretches in 2021 and 2022. Huntley even earned a Pro Bowl selection after helping Baltimore reach the postseason. Following brief stints with the Browns and Miami Dolphins in 2024, Huntley returned to Baltimore as experienced insurance behind Jackson. He has accumulated nearly 3,500 passing yards, 15 passing touchdowns, and more than 800 rushing yards. His latest breakthrough gives Baltimore confidence that patience with its franchise quarterback will not necessarily cost it games.
