The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied endorsing Senator Ishaku Abbo, the Labour Party candidate in the 2027 Adamawa State governorship election.
Wike, through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, described a social media post claiming that he was backing Abbo as fake.
Olayinka said the minister had no relationship with the Labour Party or any of its candidates in Adamawa State.
The disputed post reportedly quoted Wike as urging residents of Adamawa State to make informed and thoughtful decisions at the polls, while expressing the view that Abbo was the most suitable candidate to lead the state.
However, the minister denied making the statement, insisting that he had not endorsed Abbo or any other Labour Party candidate in the state.
He urged the people of Adamawa to disregard the social media post, dismissing it as a false representation of his position on the forthcoming governorship election.
Wike also maintained that he would personally announce his preferred candidate whenever he decided to publicly declare his political support.
According to the minister, anyone seeking to know the candidate he supports should wait for him to make the announcement himself rather than rely on unverified social media reports.
