Yemeni Defense Ministry Warns of AI-Generated Voice Cloning Campaign Targeting Military Forces

ADEN – Yemen's Ministry of Defense has warned of what it described as intensified attempts to use artificial intelligence technologies to clone the voices of military commanders in an effort to create confusion within government forces and resistance units.
According to official statements and field reports, the alleged campaign is primarily focused on replicating the voices of senior military leaders and distributing fabricated audio messages containing fake military orders through communication channels used by personnel on the front lines.
The ministry said the objective of such operations is to destabilize battlefield conditions, undermine trust among troops, and encourage the implementation of false commands that could negatively affect military operations.
Officials stressed that all military personnel and resistance fighters must exercise extreme caution when dealing with suspicious audio recordings and verify any orders exclusively through official channels and authorized platforms.
"The strategic goal behind these operations is to push forces into making incorrect field decisions that could result in significant losses of personnel and strategic positions," the ministry said in its warning.
Military authorities further noted that modern conflicts are no longer limited to conventional armed confrontations but increasingly include information warfare and digital manipulation campaigns designed to weaken morale and cohesion among fighting forces.
The ministry emphasized that technological awareness has become an essential component of military readiness, particularly as artificial intelligence tools continue to evolve and can be exploited for hostile purposes.
In its concluding guidance, the ministry urged all units operating across Yemen's various front lines to immediately verify the source of any orders received through audio messages, describing rapid verification procedures as the most effective way to thwart disinformation efforts aimed at disrupting military cohesion.
