PETALING JAYA: Eastern & Oriental Bhd (E&O) has teamed up with OCK Group Bhd to develop and operate telecommunications and digital infrastructure on Andaman Island in Penang, integrating connectivity facilities into the 760-acre waterfront development’s long-term masterplan.
E&O said its indirect wholly owned subsidiary, Tinggi Murni Sdn Bhd, had entered into a joint venture with OCK Setia Engineering Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of OCK Group, for the development and operation of telecommunications and related digital infrastructure on the island.
The infrastructure will include telecommunications towers and poles, smart poles, fibre-optic and broadband networks, as well as in-building connectivity solutions.
The facilities are intended to support telecommunications operators and internet service providers in delivering connectivity to residents, businesses and the wider community.
E&O managing director Kok Tuck Cheong said infrastructure planning was integral to the company’s long-term vision for Andaman Island, which is being developed as an integrated waterfront destination comprising residential, commercial, hospitality and lifestyle offerings.
“For a development of Andaman Island’s scale and ambition, infrastructure cannot be an afterthought. It must be considered from the outset as part of the wider masterplanning process,” he said in a statement.
Kok said the development required planning beyond the physical environment to include essential systems supporting everyday life, including utilities and digital connectivity.
He added that the collaboration reflected E&O’s approach to integrating different components of a destination to create a well-planned and connected community.
OCK Group managing director Datuk Wira Sam Ooi Chin Khoon said the partnership would bring telecommunications towers, in-building coverage solutions and fibre-to-the-home infrastructure under a unified platform on Andaman Island.
He said the approach was intended to enable telecommunications operators to expand their network presence more efficiently while meeting the connectivity needs of residents, businesses and the wider community.
OCK believes the collaboration could provide a scalable model for integrating digital infrastructure into future property developments.
