Concept illustration — Your archive holds more than answers.
A customer reports a problem. A support specialist asks the right question, checks an exception, consults an engineer and finds a resolution. The ticket closes. For the company, that is an ordinary afternoon.
For someone developing an AI agent, the sequence raises a useful question. Can the system work out what matters, choose an appropriate action and recognize whether the problem was actually solved?
Years of these sequences can sit inside established businesses. They record the practical knowledge that rarely makes it into a polished company presentation. As AI systems take on more work, that history deserves a closer look.
An AI data licensing review asks whether an approved portion can support a defined use and a commercial agreement. The company's first contribution is understanding the history it already holds.
Why the sequence matters
An answer tells you where someone arrived. A working history can show how they got there, including the false starts, approvals and circumstances that changed the decision.
Illustration — The answer is only the last frame.
That distinction becomes important when evaluating an agent expected to do more than produce fluent text. A customer request might be incomplete. Two policies might apply. An experienced employee might recognize that the safest next step is to ask a person for help.
These are possible uses for carefully prepared operational records, rather than a claim that any particular archive will improve a model. The value depends on the task, the rights available and the quality of the examples.
There is evidence that organizations are moving toward more involved workflows. Anthropic's 2026 State of AI Agents report, based on a survey of more than 500 technical leaders conducted in late 2025, found that 57% of the organizations surveyed used agents for multi-stage workflows. It is a vendor study, not a census of all businesses, but it helps explain the interest in realistic work.
The records worth looking for
Useful candidates may include resolved support cases, approved internal documentation, CRM histories with meaningful outcomes, and engineering issue discussions. A long document is not automatically more useful than a short one. A smaller collection of complete, well-explained cases may be easier to assess than a large export with missing context.
Illustration — Four archives that can explain real work.
Consider a hypothetical software company with several years of implementation support. Its public help center explains the intended process. Some internal cases also show what happened when the process failed, which questions the team asked and how the outcome was checked.
The potential contribution is the operational context. Before any external use, the company still needs to determine whether the relevant material can be licensed, which information must be excluded and what preparation is required.
That last step can change the commercial answer. A rich archive with unresolved client restrictions may be unsuitable. A narrower, clearly permitted collection could be more practical.
Four questions for an initial inventory
Start with a description of the records rather than moving the records themselves.
Illustration — Describe the archive before moving it.
What recurring business task does the collection document?
Does it preserve the request, relevant context, actions and outcome?
Can the company establish the rights needed for the proposed use?
Can sensitive, restricted or irrelevant material be removed while preserving useful meaning?
The exercise should produce a short inventory: systems involved, approximate time span, types of work and a named person who can discuss authority. Record counts and file formats help, but they do not settle the question of value.
It is also useful to describe what the records leave out. A support system might record resolutions but omit the telephone conversation that explained the cause. A CRM might contain many closed opportunities without reliable reasons for the outcome. Those limitations belong in the assessment.
A business can be paid for an approved license
SourceX pays qualifying businesses to license approved operational data for AI training and evaluation. The company agrees what is included and how it may be used. SourceX manages the licensing process, data preparation, delivery and payout under the applicable agreements.
Illustration — An approved collection becomes the proposal.
This is a specific commercial process. It requires rights review, privacy review and buyer fit. Company approval alone does not resolve every obligation involving customers, employees or third-party material. De-identification also needs to be assessed in context; it is not a universal permission to reuse records.
SourceX's company sourcing criteria include at least 50 full-time employees at peak, supported geography and suitable rights. An operating business, an acquired company or a wound-down company may be considered, but none qualifies automatically.
The opportunity for people who know the right company
An advisor or operator may recognize a promising company before anyone has assembled an inventory. They may know that the business has years of substantive customer work and a decision-maker willing to explore a license.
Illustration — The introduction starts with the decision maker. A permission-based introduction is an initial step. A lead alone does not trigger a reward.
The SourceX referral program offers eligible partners 25% of the compensation SourceX actually pays the referred company, capped at $100,000 cumulatively per company under the program terms. A lead or meeting does not trigger payment. Buyer acceptance and cleared payment, supplier payment, finance approval and the partner's required details must be in place. Signed agreements may set different terms.
The first useful action is a permission-based introduction to an authorized company leader. Partners should describe the business and its possible fit without collecting or forwarding confidential records.
The company archive may already contain years of work that would be difficult to recreate. Finding out whether an approved portion has a legitimate AI use begins with understanding what is there and who has the authority to discuss it.
