Belagavi City Corporation will set up a stray dog sterilisation centre in Savgaon on the outskirts of Belagavi.
Officials have already identified an one-acre site in Belagavi taluk to establish a permanent sterilisation centre.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan has transferred the revenue land to the city corporation.
The city corporation earlier finalised a proposal to establish the centre and submitted it to the Deputy Commissioner for approval.
The proposed site is located away from residential areas with cemeteries on two sides and private land on another.
The city corporation health officials say that the location is suitable for the facility.
Stray dog sterilisation surgeries are currently being conducted at a temporary shed in Hirebagewadi.
However, this has faced opposition from some local residents.
Earlier, sterilisation surgeries were regularly conducted at a centre in Srinagar in Belagavi.
However, opposition from corporator Lakshmi Rathod led to the closure of that facility, forcing the civic body to shift operations to Hirebagewadi as a temporary arrangement.
Sterilisation operations at Hirebagewadi will continue until the Savgaon centre is established.
The city corporation has also set up 26 designated feeding zones for stray dogs across the city.
