The Communist Party of India (Marxist) organised demonstrations at several places in Puducherry and Karaikal regions on Thursday to highlight the failure of the National Democratic Alliance governments at the Centre and in Puducherry to control the prices of essential commodities.
Protests were held at several locations in the urban and rural limits of Puducherry. CPI (M) secretary S. Ramachandran led the protest near Amudhasurabhi on Mahatma Gandhi Road while party senior leader V. Perumal participated in the protest in front of Civil Supplies Department at Pakkumudiyanpet.
The protest was also to highlight the failure of the Puducherry government to distribute free rice through ration shops, CPI (M) said in a statement.
