150 (Spoilery!) Thoughts I Had While Watching ‘You Can See Everything’

Pretty much all I’ve been able to think about this week is Nathan Fielder’s new Elizabeth Holmes documentary You Can See Everything, and now, praise God, I have very much seen it with my own eyes.

My primary takeaway from this bizarre three-hour masterpiece is that human beings are fascinating in their heartrending fallibility and infinite ego… but I also recorded (quite literally) every thought I had while watching the documentary. Read them all below, but be warned: spoilers ahead.

1. Liz!
2. THE Liz!
3. God, I can already tell this husband sucks because he just used the words “radical transparency” in reference to his and Elizabeth Holmes’s participation in a Nathan Fielder documentary.
4. There she is, folks.
5. I am already bummed out by the presence of these kids in this movie.
6. I need to rewatch Amanda Seyfried as Holmes, stat.
7. Nathan!!!!!
8. I was just weird to him at a party!
9. I don’t think he noticed, though.
10. Wow, Theranos was really billed as “the iPod of healthcare,” huh.
11. The cut between the description of Holmes’s fraud and her reading to her baby...wild.
12. In fact, this is all...simply wild.
13. Sorry, I don’t have a better word for it than that!
14. As of yet, anyway.
15. Damn, haven’t heard the name “Sunny Balwani” in a while.
16. Holmes didn’t speak publicly for seven years?
17. I would love to be in a position to offer Nathan Fielder a bagel.
18. LOL, the “Holmes denying she committed a crime” section of this movie has begun.
19. Get her, Nathan!
20. “All I know is my truth” —the most manipulative person you’ve ever met.
21. Sorry if I sound heartless about Holmes being forced to leave her family for prison, but that sadly happens to a lot of moms, most of them without Holmes’s resources or history of large-scale fraud.
22. Nobody says “wow” quite like Nathan Fielder.
23. This man is so insane.
24. Holmes’s husband, to be clear, not Fielder.
25. Billy Evans (the husband) meeting and falling in love with Holmes post-downfall is either romantic or terrifying, and I’m not sure which.
26. “Yeah, I like women.” Sure.
27. I want to go to the Nathan Fielder school of investigative journalism.
28. Wait, Evans did worry Holmes was scamming him?
29. Obsessed with him trying to plead down the family-wealth allegations.
30. Just sit with it, diva!
31. God, the lighting of Holmes is (say it with me) wild.
32. Not this frontal shot of Evans at the gym!
33. “So who messed up, then, in this process?”
34. Exactly, Nathan.
35. God, the learned helplessness radiating from Holmes is crazy.
36. These recorded side convos between Holmes and Evans...
37. WHY WOULD YOU LET NATHAN FIELDER INTO YOUR HOME 24/7?
38. “Liz, what? You’ve never lied in your life?”
39. Oscar for Nathan Fielder, immediately.
40. Bummed out once again at how cute this baby is.
41. Fielder continually just stating the facts of Holmes’s deception and watching her lie to him about it is breaking my brain.
42. “So this is the famous scam device.” LOL.
43. “Well, why choose those words?”
44. We are really getting down to semiotics here, and I’m into it.
45. Lot of debate about what a lie is!
46. “Say what’s there” is advice a lot of people could use.
47. Okay, so Holmes and Evans are definitively not classic-comedy fans.
48. Fielder playing “Who’s on First?” for Holmes while she holds her baby is making me short-circuit.
49. Ah, the dulcet tones of men explaining comedy.
50. Then again, I guess Nathan Fielder is very qualified.
51. “I trust Billy, and Elizabeth is a lot wiser.”
52. Okay, I guess we are just saying anything!
53. I am so claustrophobic in this theater right now.
54. Yay, Amanda Seyfried!
55. God, she really ate that role.
56. The Curse mentioned (sort of.)
57. God, these people are insane.
58. Do not let Elizabeth Holmes have a laser!!!
59. Is Fielder going to frustration-cry?
60. I would fully understand and support it if he did.
61. “I’m always being real.”
62. AHHHHHHH!
63. “Sometimes I joke”...
64. Aw, Nathan.
65. Dude, I’m sad.
66. I mean, Holmes should face consequences for her actions, but I’m still sad.
67. Holmes/Evans + AI = :(
68. Sorry, was that...a loose gecko?
69. Evans talking about Holmes’s body is giving “yuck,” to me.
70. Oh shit, why does Evans want to turn off the cameras?
71. The dynamic evolving between Evans and Fielder is making me want to bite my nails, which I haven’t done in years.
72. “Building monuments of love to me”....oh, I’m scared of Evans.
73. Not the “Elizabeth Holmes Innocent” billboards in LA!
74. I’ve seen these!
75. Fielder trying to get Evans to face reality is even more insane than Fielder trying to get Holmes to face reality.
76. How is Holmes potentially less crazy than her husband?
77. Is that...
78. Actual Amanda Seyfried?
79. Reviewing Fielder’s footage with him?
80. Footage of herself playing Holmes?
81. And Holmes sobbing?
82. I am astral projecting.
83. Seyfried is right, it’s heartbreaking!
84. And she also describes it as “wild.” Twins!
85. “She literally could just be crazy.”
86. Well, yes!
87. I’m so glad Seyfried also wants Holmes and Evans to break up.
88. And she correctly identified Evans as controlling!
89. Someone in the audience of my screening just said “That’s true.”
90. “Do you miss her?”
91. Seyfried bringing the documentarian heat right back to Fielder!
92. CHRISTOPHER ABBOTT?
93. Bro, this is all very Kate Plays Christine.
94. In a good way!
95. Seyfried doing Holmes voice is so crazy.
96. “That’s not a real documentary.” LOL.
97. “There was, like, several pizzas there” also made me LOL.
98. The levels of scammer-off here are truly insane.
99. Not to mention the manipulation meter! Off the charts!
100. It’s fucking insane that Holmes could appear innocent to anyone at this point, but also...
101. I mean, she’s categorically not innocent, but is she innocent of trying to get a payday out of this documentary?
102. WILL WE EVER CRACK THIS CASE?
103. I am quite literally gnawing my sleeve to keep from biting my nails.
104. Gross, but better than breaking my no-nail-biting streak, right?
105. This call from Holmes to Evans and her kids where she’s just desperately trying to tell them how much she loves them...
106. I’m tearing up! I admit it!
107. Or did she know Seyfried was going to be there?
108. And if so, am I an absolute mark for being moved?
109. “Is she talking about biotech?” LOL.
110. EVANS IS FUCKING INSANE!
111. I AM NOT OKAY!
112. HE USED POWER OF ATTORNEY TO GET HOLMES’S X LOGIN?
113. “I can literally do anything”????????????????
114. I’m glad Seyfried seems as appalled as I feel right now.
115. Now we’re bringing Charlie Kirk into it?
116. Of course Evans is a Kirkhead.
117. Seyfried calling Kirk a “fucking pussy” is so awesome.
118. I am spiraling.
119. Evans has a gun on him at all times?
120. Is Nathan Fielder safe??!?!?!??!?
121. “I’m practical”?
122. I feel absolutely insane right now, so I can’t imagine how Fielder must be feeling.
123. Obsessed with Fielder’s chic little glass of red wine.
124. Breakup?!?
125. Is she going to call him on the appointed day??????
126. Ugh, no, it’s fucking Evans.
127. Evans controlling Fielder’s access to Holmes is INSANE.
128. I need to lie down!
129. Wow, this haunting shot of the phone not ringing!
130. Oop, now it’s ringing.
131. This is some of the most affecting dialogue-free footage I’ve seen since...that silent underwater episode of Bojack Horseman, I guess?
132. Okay, yay, we’re recreating it with Seyfried.
133. I’m so uncomfortable.
134. And that’s the intended effect of a Nathan Fielder joint, I suppose!
135. Horses?
136. What the hell, sure.
137. The meta levels here (Seyfried playing Holmes complaining about Seyfried’s portrayal of her) may kill me.
138. “Are you even aware of the decisions he’s making on your behalf?”
139. The million-dollar question!
140. Seyfried reading Fielder for falling for Holmes’s besotted bullshit re: Evans is so satisfying.
141. “I think the love is, like, real.”
142. HM.
143. I mean, what is love, I suppose?
144. I feel like my brain is being put through a very slow but high-powered blender.
145. Is Fielder being too protective of Holmes?
146. I’m starting to lose track of which shots are Holmes and which shots are Seyfried playing Holmes.
147. “It’s very complicated.”
148. You said it, sister.
149. I am lowkey questioning the meanings of certain very familiar words (”love,” “truth,” “lie,” “believe”) as a direct result of this film.
150. Which is to say…hats off, Fielder.
