The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit filed by Chris Nkwonta challenging the emergence of a member of the House of Representatives, Sam Nwogu, as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency.
Nkwonta had approached the court to challenge Nwogu's emergence as the winner of the APC House of Representatives primaries for the constituency.
Delivering judgement, the presiding judge, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, held that the suit lacked merit and affirmed that Nwogu duly emerged as the candidate of the party through a valid and lawful primary election conducted in line with the Electoral Act and the APC guidelines.
The court consequently dismissed the case and affirmed Sam Nwogu as the authentic APC candidate for Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency.
Nwogu thanked the judiciary for standing for truth and dedicated the victory to the people of Ukwa. He called for unity among party faithful ahead of the general election
As of the time of this report, details of the certified true copy of the judgement are still being awaited.
