Colombo, Oct. 12 (Daily Mirror) - Patients undergoing eye surgery at the Hambantota District General Hospital are facing difficulties due to the non-availability of contact lenses provided free of charge, with patients reportedly having to spend nearly Rs. 40,000 to obtain them from outside.
Patients have taken to social media to raise concerns over the situation, saying the additional expense has placed a heavy financial burden on those requiring eye surgery.
The reported shortage has left patients struggling to arrange the required contact lenses from outside suppliers, adding to the difficulties they face while seeking treatment at the government hospital.
Patients have urged the Government to intervene urgently and ensure that contact lenses are supplied to Hambantota District General Hospital and other state hospitals where they are required.
They said timely action was necessary to ensure that patients seeking treatment at government hospitals were not burdened with substantial out-of-pocket expenses for essential medical items.
