The Rotary Club of Seeta has stepped up efforts to promote road safety in Mukono District, organising an awareness walk through Seeta Town and training boda boda riders in basic first aid.
The walk, held on October 17, 2026, ran from Ridar Hotel to Murs Country Resort Gardens in Kigunga under the theme “Safe Roads, Save Lives – Ride Safe.”
It brought together Rotarians, Uganda Police officers, boda boda riders, students and other road users to raise awareness about responsible road use and the importance of preventing road crashes.
Participants included members of the Goma Boda Boda Association, students from Namilyango Secondary School and the St. Francis Borgia School Band. The activity was guided by Mukono District Traffic Police Commander ASP Francis Onen Lokwiya.
Rotary targets safer boda boda operations
Rotary Club of Seeta President Moses Muhairwe Babu pledged to work with the Uganda Police and the Ministry of Works and Transport's Road Safety Department to train motorcyclists on road safety requirements.
The proposed training will focus on proper documentation, including driving permits and third-party insurance, as well as understanding road signs and traffic regulations.
Boda boda riders remain important to Uganda's transport system, particularly for short-distance journeys, but safe riding practices and compliance with traffic requirements are essential to protecting riders, passengers and other road users.
ASP Onen Lokwiya emphasised the importance of proper training and self-restraint among boda boda riders, particularly when responding to accidents.
Riders receive first aid training
As part of the initiative, the club's project chairperson, Rotarian General Dr James Kiyengo, conducted first aid training for boda boda riders.
The session covered bleeding control and resuscitation, equipping participants with basic knowledge of how to respond when someone is injured before professional medical assistance arrives.
The club also donated life jackets to boda boda riders as part of its road safety activities.
Rotary Club of Seeta Publicity Secretary Semakula Henry urged motorcyclists to obtain valid driving permits and observe safe road practices.
Rotary renews road safety commitment
The club reaffirmed its commitment to working with the police, government agencies and community members to promote safer roads.
The awareness walk and training activities were intended to encourage responsible behaviour among riders and other road users while strengthening community participation in road safety efforts.
Through continued sensitisation and practical training, the Rotary Club of Seeta hopes to contribute to safer transport in Mukono District and reinforce the message that responsible road use helps save lives.
