TALLADEGA — Sammy Smith picked up his second win of the weekend, taking The Progress Group 250 NASCAR O'Reilly Series race.
The win comes a day after Smith won the Love's Truck Stop 225 in the NASCAR Truck Series, his first in the series. This is Smith's fourth win in the O'Reilly series but he hadn't won yet this season. He now has two O'Reilly wins at Talladega, his first coming in the 2024 fall race.
On Friday, he passed the line .091 seconds ahead of a four wide battle for second place. He needed similar magic on Saturday, making a pass of JR Motorsport teammate Carson Kvapli on the final line and beating him back through the trioval.
The top six drivers were all in the chase, with leader Jesse Love placing third and Kvapli coming in second.
A caution came out with 20 laps due to debris on the track. It brought the cars back together with Kvapli holding his lead after taking the first stage. Justin Allgaier took the second stage, as JR Motorsports had a dominant day at a track team owner Dale Earnhardt Jr won six cup series races at.
