Dama Football Club, recently promoted to the Khomas Second Division, is proud to announce that its Young Player of the Season and MTC Hopsol U/17 top goalscorer, Delton Tshipa, has begun a two-week training and assessment programme at SD Huesca in Spain.
The club’s chairman, Appolos Shimakeleni, is accompanying him to monitor his progress and help him adapt to life in Europe.
“During the programme, Delton will live and train with Huesca’s youth teams at the club’s modern academy base, the Base Aragonesa de Fútbol, with access to its gym, meal plans and other facilities. He will also play in friendly matches, receive a personalised sports nutrition plan and meet players from Huesca’s professional first team,” he said.
“Delton attended his first training session on Thursday, which focused on ball-centred drills, and spent Friday in the gym. He is enjoying his time in Spain and looks forward to every session. It is a great opportunity for him to, first of all, experience international travel, train and play at a much higher level, and test himself against technically gifted players.”
About SD Huesca
SD Huesca played in Spain’s top flight, LaLiga, during the 2018/19 and 2020/21 seasons. The club now competes in the Primera Federación, two levels below LaLiga. Through its official SDH Academy, Huesca develops local and international players aged 13 to 18. The club’s modern development system is structured around an integrated, multidimensional approach, led by UEFA-certified coaches.
Co-founder of the MTC HopSol Youth League, Collin Benjamin, said the league applauds Dama Soccer Club and Delton and hopes to make the assessment permanent.
“If not, it is up to the player to keep working harder than before so that when the next opportunity comes along, he is ready to make the move permanent,” he said.
“Many teams in the MTC HopSol YSL compete in Youth Soccer tournaments to expose players to what lies beyond our borders. Players must work harder than before so that, when these opportunities arise, they are ready. We still have work to do, especially in strength. Speed and strength are vital in one-on-one situations, whether offensively or defensively. That is the foundation of international football.”
Dama Soccer Academy, also known as Dama Football Club, is a youth football academy and senior club based in Windhoek. The team fields youth teams in the U/13, U/15, and U/17 age groups, competing in the MTC HopSol Youth Soccer League, as well as a senior team in the NFA division.
In June, Dama Football Academy won the Khomas Third Division title (clinching it with a dominant 5–0 victory over Namib Eagles FC) and secured promotion to the Khomas Second Division.
“Dama FC strives to create opportunities for talented young players and expose them to professional set-ups. The club looks forward to further international engagements. At the moment, no interest has been expressed, but we will know what they think of him at the end of the programme,” Shimakeleni concluded.
